Ruby on Rails Course 11th-17th October

Ruby on Rails is an exploding web development framework. In five intense days, you'll learn first-hand what's really important: how to quickly build and deploy full-featured, industrial-strength web applications.

Course Overview

You will spend the first day and a half building your Ruby skills and writing Ruby code. Then, you'll move right into Ruby on Rails, where we'll take a detailed pass through the core parts of the Rails framework, including Active Record for persistence, Action Pack for model-view-controller, and Action Web Service for ReST-based web services. You'll also learn how to use Rails testing. You'll have plenty of hands-on time to use the technology because this course has more than half of the time devoted to labs.

Prerequisites

Participants should be familiar with at least one other object oriented programming language, such as Java, C#, or Python, and have some experience working with web programming, especially with HTML.

Equipment: You will need a laptop with Ruby and Ruby on Rails, version 1.1 or better, installed as you'll want to take home what you've built during the course. Office hours will be made available one week before the course for installation help.
